Midwest-to-Boston transplant, Mercy Lewis, has always been responsible. Cautious. Careful. She wore sunscreen to the beach. A lifejacket on a boat. She only crossed the street at crosswalks. She enjoyed life in moderation, and she didn’t indulge. So why is she having such a hard time remembering that when she meets a beautiful expatriate on a tropical island?
Mercy had been promised Christmas in the Caribbean; she never imagined she would get so much more.

Carolyn G. Manuel –
Teacher in Paradise
Mercy is a first grade teacher in Boston who takes a Christmas vacation to a beautiful island. When her best friend locks her out of their room she ends up with Kate, an ex-pat American, just getting by painting coconuts, etc. for the tourist. Their slow burn romance is totally out of character for both of them. Great author.

Fun. Good story
Enjoyed the book so much I stayed up to finish it. Been to the island been all inclusive resorts and she gets it.

Eliza’s Latest – Wonderful As Always
I eagerly await any book that Eliza writes – especially the DCMH series. This standalone novel is lighter, less intense than many of her other books. But I loved the fun, sexy, romantic tone of it. I was totally immersed in the two main characters, Mercy and Kate, the island setting and their journey to happiness! There were some delightful surprises along the way – and a pet chicken. I never knew I wanted a pet chicken as a character in a lesbian romance until now… My only complaint is that I now have to start the wait until her next book. I will of course re-read this book several times and revisit her others to pass the time. They are all so good!!

Solid sapphic read
This is cute and comical read. It isn’t Lentzski’s best but you always know you’re getting a solid book when you buy from her.

It’s Eliza Lentzski, do you really need to know more?
Though I found this book more lighthearted than Lentzki’s DCMH series (a super favorite of mine), it’s still an entertaining read. Which frankly, shouldn’t be a surprise at this point. If you’ve read any of Lentzki’s work and liked it, you’ll like this to.For any newcomers, maybe start with her Winter Jacket or Don’t Call Me Hero series first–or if you want a quick, fluffier standalone (dare I say beach read)–might as well start here. Unique characters, the right amount of drama, deft writing. Do it.

Enjoyed
Loved the uniqueness of the characters in this book. You could truly see the mental anxiety of Mercy because she was brought up in a religious midwest home. Loved the carefree easy of life in Kate. Both women I could see having a common bond with. Living in the world of healthcare, anxiety is on my daily dietary menu so I see a but of Mercy in me. Wishing I could chuck it all and live on an island with no real worries is my Kate. Thanks again for writing a book I could get lost in for a little while.

A good story that makes you want to go on vacation here
The story was good and it makes you think that teachers everywhere need this kind of vacation. This one has beautiful scenery, two woman falling for each other and a happy ever after.

Vaycay romance and historical references!
Such a bonus to read a book penned by Eliza Lentzski. Where else can this history teacher see a perfect reference to The Gilded Age? I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and managed to ignore the stack of essays I need to score. Loved the character development and the setting of Curacao.

Another great read from Eliza. I have read all her books and this one didn’t disappoint, loads of angst but also fun. I love Eliza’s style of writing. 5 stars +

Well! I’m almost ashamed to say I could almost be Mercy…if I was thinner and younger…so I could identify with her. Thanks for another great read.

I havenât rated this author less than 5 ever. Every book deserves the high praise and high rating. Ahem I might be addicted to her writing:-)

This book is good but not great. The storyline is fair, the characters could be better developed. On the whole it is fairly predictable.
