Kitties love the taste.
My two cats absolutely love the taste of this toothpaste and since I’ve been brushing their teeth with it for the past 10 days I’ve seen an improvement on their teeth removing plaque deposits.I have learned a lot in the past several days about Sodium Hydroxide in toothpastes. If sodium hydroxide is added to bring the pH to 6.5-7.5 (by neutralizing the acid present) then it will be listed as an ingredient, but actually will not be present, having been used up. That’s the important fact. Here is a great explanation for it from Tom’s of Maine:SODIUM HYDROXIDESodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a white, waxy, opaque, odorless crystal consisting of sodium ions and hydroxide ions. It is also known as lye or caustic soda and used in many industries, for pH adjustment, to purify drinking water, in household cleaners, and in soap-making.WHAT DOES IT DO? It is a highly versatile ingredient available in a wide range of grades and concentrations. At its highest levels it is very caustic and can be used as a drain cleaner, but at dilute levels it is safe for handling and food preparation. In Tomâs products, dilute levels of sodium hydroxide are used to adjust the pH level in some of our oral care products, which is done to improve the overall efficacy of the product. When dissolved the hydroxide portion of the compound reacts with acids to form water. The pH is adjusted (becomes more basic) as some of the acid is eliminated. It is also a key ingredient to preparing many special food items. The traditional Nordic dish of lutefisk literally translates to âlye fishâ as it is prepared with dried whitefish and lye (a common name for sodium hydroxide). Hominy is the preparation of dried corn kernels reconstituted by soaking them in a lye solution and pretzels owe their unique crust to being dipped in a lye solution before baking.HOW IS IT MADE?Sodium hydroxide is derived from salt water (brine). It is most commonly manufactured by the electrolysis of brine, a salt (NaCl) solution. During this process the water (H20) is reduced to hydrogen gas (H) and hydroxide ion (OH). The hydroxide ion bonds with the sodium to form sodium hydroxide (NaOH).WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?There are other weaker compounds that can buffer pH in formulas, but sodium hydroxide can be used at a very low concentration and be significantly effective.IS THIS THE RIGHT OPTION FOR ME?The sodium hydroxide in our products is food-grade and designated as safe for general use in food by the FDA1. Sodium hydroxide has been widely used in drinking water as a pH adjusting agent and is also used in food processing. It has a long history of safe use in these applications.Tomâs of Maine recognizes that no two people are alike, and even with naturally derived ingredients, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction that is unique to them. As with any product, be sure to discontinue use if you experience discomfort or other indications that the product may not be appropriate for your individual body chemistry.

Great toothpaste my Dog loves it !
This toothpaste is amazing! Itâs safe, effective, and easy to use. My dog actually enjoy the taste, which makes brushing so much easier. I love that itâs enzymatic and probiotic, helping with both plaque and bad breath. The ingredients are natural and food-grade, so I feel good about using it daily. Iâve noticed a big improvement in my petsâ breath and overall dental health.Highly recommend for pet owners!

Works well but not the best smell.
Works as it should to clean teeth, but I thought my dogs breath was worse right after. It has a weird smell.

Easy to use, if they let you
Our cat gets offended when we try to brush his teeth. Heâll eat the toothpaste but quickly turns away so we canât brush, so I canât comment on how it works for him. At least he got some vitamins. One of our dogs tries to eat both the toothpaste and the toothbrush, so again, no review from him. My older dog is calmer and usually lets us brush her teeth. Weâve been using the finger toothbrushes, which make it easier to get around her mouth. The gel sticks well to the brush so we can apply it at any angle without it falling off. Thereâs a faint scent, but it doesnât linger on her breath though her mouth does smell a little better.

I am incredibly impressed by this product. My cat LOVES it!! I recently noticed her teeth had lots of plaque build up so I ordered this toothpaste and a small toothbrush. This toothpaste is great as I don’t need to physically brush her teeth, the cat just needs to lick the toothpaste a it swishes around her mouth. I do also bring the toothbrush to the back teeth to ensure everything is well coated. She loves the flavour and gets really excited when I bring it out. Who knew a cat could love their hygiene time! 1000% recommend for cat owners, I feel like dogs would love this too. Smells like chicken

Seems to make a small difference in their breath when used regularly. Does it remove plaque? Not really, no.But it’s great for maintenance of already clean dog teeth, and the ingredient list is simple and safe for my pets, and my pets seem to like the taste!

I recently started using this product and Iâm already impressed! The coconut oil and chicken flavor are instantly accepted by my dog. Itâs good to use a product with food-grade ingredients and pet-safe enzymes. While I havenât used it long enough to see the full effects on plaque and tartar, Iâve noticed their breath is much fresher already. So far, it seems like a promising addition to his care routine!

When I selected this toothpaste for purchase, the description said that it was an enzymatic toothpaste (which generally keeps working after the brush). No where on the box does it say that it is in fact enzymatic. Also, the strong chicken flavour is a bit gross, though my dog loves it.

My cat is very picky, he rarely likes the taste of new products, but I was happy to discover that he loved this toothpaste and the product made the teeth brushing possible!
