    I picked up this book because I have been trying to “eat clean” to reduce inflammation.     A Good Guide to the Basics
    This book is a comprehensive guide covering the basics. It doesn’t use studies but is well-researched information and advice. I was surprised to see the depth of the value of learning to destress and the importance of exercise and how they actually affect gut health. I hope to do a better job in these areas to improve my gut! I was hoping that the author would have her story of regaining her health interwoven into the work since it was her health that led her on the journey. It was not to be, and there were no human interest stories of others who had improved their gut health either. The author does a good job explaining the vagus nerve and its impact between the brain and the gut. You finish the book with the understanding that your body is a system that has to work together to gain the best outcomes.

    This book breaks down everything you need to know about getting and keeping a healthy gut!
    The book has a great amount of information, more than I was aware of, in fact and I keep up to date on things involving the gut-health connection. I’m really glad I took the time to read this book. It is a wealth of information and it’s well worth the read, especially with the recent news that many antacids may increase the likelihood of dementia! I’m going to use the techniques and the tips in the book to get off the antacids that I’ve been taking for the last 3 years twice a day (per my doctor) because I certainly don’t want to add to the the likelihood of getting dementia simply by taking the medication that’s supposed to help me instead of harm me.

    There is plenty in this book. I liked it as it took a no-nonsense and direct approach to strong affirmations of common sense, things we often hear and associate to well-being. This resource, however, provides a deeper dive into the relationships and connections as to the why’s – explaining how deep breathing, certain herbs, movement like yoga, mindfulness, and stress management, as a handful of examples, all have a contributory impact to the functions of our guts. I found the information explaining the basics of our Vagus nerve and its critical role to our overall health particularly enlightening and was able to recognize some of the gaps in my own day to day living where slight adjustments could invariably assist me in my own strife for an improved gut-brain connection. Being an individual very interested to keep on top of my health and mental well being, I found this to be a great to-the-point resource with just enough background knowledge to inspire me to do more to keep myself healthy.
