At first I did not like the flavor – a bit strong mint. I prefer sweet.So being brand new at this, and picky, I put the bottle aside and purchased Natrol’s 5 mg strawberry, a flavor I liked. But, I soon realized it wasn’t doing its job for me. Researching, I realized I needed a lot more than a younger person. Experimenting, I hit on 20mg as just right for me – which meant I needed to take 4 of those strawberry ones.[I realize that 20mg is more than the commonly recommended dose. But I researched thoroughly and experimented carefully, arriving at this dosage for myself only after close evaluation over a period of time].But I soon began to dread dissolving my nightly mouthful of 4 chalky strawberry tablets. So I looked into that same company’s 10mg tablet, but Amazon reviewers said that, in the 10 vs. 5 mg tablet, the strawberry tastes terrible! I’ve concluded that when you need melatonin tablets that are 10mg vs. 5mg, you need mint to mask the favor. And chalky seems to be the nature of melatonin tablets.So I returned to this 10mg Bronson mint, intending to meanwhile shop for another flavor. But soon I realized I didn’t mind the mint anymore! Its my simple nightly routine now and I just don’t care about flavor nuances anymore, like I never care about my mint baking powder toothpaste anymore.I let the tablets dissolve completely (and I hurry that by biting them in quarters first) and THEN brush my teeth, because I noticed after dissolving it, even in the morning, there remains a bit of undissolved white coating sticking on the edges of my teeth (which I think it is the material used to coat the powdery tablet, which doesn’t completely dissolve as easily as the tablet itself). I’m sure it’s not bad for your teeth, but I prefer fresh brushed teeth before bed.I do this RIGHT before bed. I’ve learned not to wait too long to take the melatonin becasue I am a person with an active mind who can easily get a second wind instead of settling and quieting for sleep. The melatonin overcomes that for me, EXCEPT if I keep staying up, rather than go to bed right to be after I take it.I love that the tablets are nice and small and flat and that it’s fast-dissolve, and that it is a good price, coming in a bottle of 360, so that lasts, do I don’t need to order it often. I am ordering my second bottle now, and I am sticking with this! Even if you are not a big mint fan, you WILL get used to the flavor, especially since you are not taking these for flavor-experience, but real utility. The price is right and the product works!If it is not working for you, you probably aren’t taking enough (try 1 and 1/4, and see if you need to work up, especially if you are not young. (I don’t believe exceeding 20mg a night is recommended by anyone).If you are having wonky side effects, you probably are taking too much. Try starting with only 3mcg and work your way to the right amount for you.
