Nearly 300 Recipes that Feature the Healthiest Foods from around the World

Chef and author Grace O has traveled the world in search of delicious, good-for-you foods. Her passion for discovering food treasures from the Blue Zones and elsewhere, where people live longer, healthier lives, is the driving force behind FoodTrients.com and her new cookbook, Age-Defying Dishes of the World.

In her third cookbook, Grace O delivers all the hallmarks of her two previous award-winning cookbooks, and more. In addition to over 200 easy-to-make recipes using everyday favorites, exotic ingredients, and superfoods from around the world, Age-Defying Dishes of the World includes healthy resources, helpful guides, and tips for improving your lifespan and “health-span.”

Grace O’s global approach to her age-fighting recipes ramps up the flavor profiles of each dish to entice food lovers everywhere. She takes classic recipes and gives them international twists with a few simple steps, creating very interesting meals. For example, people will love her global take on chicken soup with recipes developed with Chinese, French, Greek, Middle Eastern, Mexican, and Indian variations. She does the same thing with basic sauces, pesto, main dishes, pastas, and bowls, and includes recipes with African, Southeast Asian, Latin American, Polynesian, Scandinavian, European, and Australian ingredients.

The book also features guides to key herbs and spices from around the globe, and to the top 50 foods for longevity, healthy sweeteners, cooking oils, ancient grains, and more.

All proceeds from Age-Defying Dishes of the World will be donated to the Grace O Foundation, which supports educating the public about nutrition, working with other food-based non-profits, and participating in research that explores food and the diseases of aging.

Caribbean Pineapple– Black Bean SalsaCaribbean Pineapple– Black Bean Salsa

Caribbean Pineapple–Black Bean Salsa

Food can most definitely be colorful, delicious, and healthy at the same time. This pineapple–black bean salsa is a perfect example. Pineapple, beans, avocado, and other nutrient-dense ingredients in this dish promote optimal energy levels, help with digestion, and lower inflammation. Pineapple contains bromelain, which aids digestion, and has anti-inflammatory, anti-blood clotting, and cancer-fighting properties.

Okinawan Purple Potato Soup

Purple potatoes are one of the mainstays of the cuisine of Okinawa in Japan, a Blue Zone island whose residents live to be 100 or older. Okinawans eat a purple sweet potato called beni imo and a domestic purple sweet potato with buff-colored skins and purple flesh. Like other highly colored fruits and vegetables, such as cherries, blueberries, raspberries, and red cabbage, purple sweet potatoes are high in flavonoids, which are antioxidant compounds. They also contain vitamin C and lycopene. This soup’s healthy dose of herbs and spices help regulate blood sugar and blood pressure.

This recipe is a take on the classic Hungarian dish chicken paprikash. Chicken breasts provide high-quality protein. Paprika helps reduce indigestion and supports good cardiovascular health and circulation. It is also antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and contains vitamins A, C, E, and K.

    Gorgeous International Recipes!
This book is beautifully written, has gorgeous photography within, and is full of interesting and unique recipes. For full transparency, I served as a dietitian expert in reviewing the recipes and content so it’s also evidence-based and has some great nutrition information as well. Ingredients include categories: Appetizers (pestos, meatballs, salsas, and more apps), Soups, Salads, Main Dishes (poultry, seafood, meat, noodles/sauces, flatbreads, baked potatoes, vegetarian), Side Dishes, Desserts, Drinks, Extras, and Spice Blends. If you want to get more creative, try new recipes, and get inspiration from other cultures, this book is for you! Ms Grace O’s passion and expertise truly shines through in her writing. Strongly recommend!

A “must” book for fun and healthy cooking!
Who knew a cookbook could change the way I cook and help me stay healthy longer and even improve my 72 year old skin! Reading this book (and that’s what I did, I READ it!) was like taking a luxurious and educational cruise around the world. The color themed photographs were inspirational, the 250 recipes easy to follow with accompanying hints for swap-outs, clear symbols for health benefits, and suggestions for accompaniments. I loved the lists included…best teas, salts, oils, flours, and the 50 best foods to help you live longer, which I now hope to do!

    Adventurous, accessible, and delicious
I gotta say I’m loving these recipes. The best parts are the diversity of flavors throughout the book and the adventure it offers you to try new things, while the recipes still remain totally doable and accessible (not a lot of extremely hard-to-find ingredients, high-level techniques, or enormous time commitments standing at the stove). I am a fairly confident cook and it’s something I love to do, but I’m also practical about how much time and energy I have on a Tuesday night at 8pm, so I love that this cookbook meets me there – and still makes it fun and delicious. My favorites so far are the spice blends like the Marrakesh spice mix (so good on chicken!!!) which you can make in a double or triple batch and then enjoy over several meals. The Provençal butter is also to die for. I really look forward to jumping into something entirely new to me next time I crack open the book…maybe the Filipino pickled green mangos?Just a lot of great cooking inspiration and fresh ideas in here. Definitely recommend.

Dishes that are delicious AND good for you!!
I am absolutely thrilled with Anti-Aging Dishes from Around the World. There are so many interesting recipes and spices that come from every part of the globe; I spent three years on Okinawa as a child and have never before seen recipes from there included in a cookbook – such great diversity!I also like Grace’s breakdown of the best oils to use for various types of cooking and the description of various teas. This book is so informative and I can’t wait to have a dinner party and wow my guests with these delectable meals. And the health information is invaluable. Thank you, Grace O.

    Simply Fabulous
I would consider myself to be a frequent and good cook- by no means a professional but someone who enjoys cooking, and that includes reading cookbooks. The title of this book caught my eye. I am getting older and looking for recipes that help me age gracefully, are not to time consuming and taste good. This book nails it. The recipes are not complex, but rather focus on putting ingredients together that I would not have thought of before. And the artwork is gorgeous, if nothing else this cookbook inspires!

Great inspiration and new ideas for cooking
If you’re looking for cooking inspiration, you will love this book. I like it because you can really see how slightly different ingredients and preparations can change a basic category — salsas, oatmeals, butters, meatballs, chicken soups, etc. Browse the 8 different recipes for pestos (Greek, Himalayan, Latin Fava Bean, Indian Mint, Italian Cardoon, Afghani Pistachio, Italian, and British Nettle) and pick one that appeals! I loved the Indian Mint Pesto with curry. The solid reference info on many food categories at the front of the book — grains, spices, oils, 50 foods to improve longevity, etc. is a great resource too.

Just what I was looking for!
This book is terrific. Grace O has steered me to healthier eating with not only recipes, but a comprehensive listing of why I should be eating the foods she uses here. It is a trip around the world of healthy eating. She has also included recipes for desserts and condiments that I can use to enhance my diet so I can eat healthier without feeling deprived. The organization and photos in this cookbook are wonderfully done. I am eager to get going on healthier cooking!

    This book is enjoyable
I’m not a cookbook collector or critic. I liked this book a lot because while being healthy it actually has dishes that I’d like to eat. Photos in a cook book are important to me because I really only try recipes that look like something I’d like. The book is well organized, has lots of variety and the author obviously knows her nutrition
