It really works – BUT
Wow, this stuff really, really works, BUT – as other users warned – the fumes are truly AWFUL during the process (this review will be very long and thorough do skip to the end if thatâs all youâre interested in). I included pictures for reference: the first is my hair styled pre-treatment (even flat ironed it still felt slightly âcrunchyâ after the first day), second is blow dried before doing this treatment, and the last two are after I washed and lightly styled my hair after day three. You can really see the difference!First, the good:For background, my hair is 2b/c, medium thickness with waves and some curl, naturally red but I dye it soft black. I wash my hair about once a week, dry it with a quality blow drier, and use hot tools every day with good heat protectants. Iâve bleached and dyed my hair with both semi-permanent and permanent dyes twice over the past six months, but Iâve been doing my own hair for 15+ years and know how to do it safely and with minimal damage. I had also trimmed my hair about a month before doing this keratin treatment so Iâd gotten rid of most of my split ends.Itâs been about three weeks post-treatment, and WOW. The results did not disappoint! I used a different highly-rated keratin treatment last year that I also purchased from Amazon, and while it was good, this blows it out of the water. My hair is smooth, silky and my blow drying is cut in half! It takes about 5 minutes with a flat iron on 360 to smooth out any areas that I want really straight or smooth, and my hair still holds a wave or curl that I put in it. I have no flyaways, no frizz, and my hair still has enough body that it doesnât just hang there like after the last treatment. I took an extra step during the application/flat ironing portion to keep body and volume in my hair, and Iâll detail in a minute. The process:The kit comes with clear instructions – first you wash your hair twice with clarifying shampoo (I use the clear Neutrogena anti-residue shampoo because itâs cheap and it works), then blow dry it straight; section your hair and apply the lotion liberally, combing through with a fine comb to saturate and remove the excess; blow dry your hair straight in sections (a good round brush really helps); finally, flat iron small sections at a time at 400-450 degrees (make sure youâre using a REALLY GOOD flat iron with temp control), going over each section 7-12 times until you no longer see fumes, getting each piece REALLY straight. Then wait overnight or for three days before washing, running your flat iron lightly over your hair once or twice each day to keep it smooth. What I did to keep some body and volume in my hair was to apply the lotion at least an inch from my scalp, and over direct the flat iron during the straightening stage by holding the section up and away from my head and slightly rotating the flat iron like I was going to curl it under, but only at the roots. I did this several times a day during the three day waiting period, and it made a huge difference! If your hair is naturally very curly or kinky itâs recommended to still apply the lotion near the scalp but to over direct the flat iron as I described. Now, ON TO THE BAD:This stuff is TOXIC. When people mentioned âfumesâ and needing fans/applying outside, I honestly just figured they were exaggerating because most people arenât used to doing their own hair. NOPE. Please, please believe me that this stuff is incredibly irritating to your eyes, nose and throat, and you MUST have proper ventilation AND at least one fan blowing away from you when applying and blow drying. I was also dumb and assumed the worst time for the fumes would be during the flat ironing stage, but itâs noxious as soon as you open the bottle. I tried to use swimming goggles without the strap because my eyes burned immediately, but that didnât work out well; I also wore two disposable masks and still had to tie a kitchen towel over my mouth because my throat was burning like I was breathing acid. I moved out into my living room, opened the patio doors, turned on the ceiling fan and set up two additional standing fans, and I still felt it.All that being said, itâs not any more noxious than you would find in a salon; by doing it at home, youâre still getting the same results through the same process, but saving at least $200. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Iâm going to do it again once these results wear off. Just be careful, and itâs worth it.

100/100!!
It is the only Keratin treatment I have been using for 10 years now! Need I say more! My hair has withstood years of heat (with proper care), coloring, and styles. Photos range from 2016 (about 6 months into first use) to October 2024. My curls are all natural.

Used for several years
I am Caucasian with very curly frizzy hairâ¦.and Iâm 72. I have used this at least once or twice every 8-10 months. It has always worked perfectly depending on my length of hair. It DOES lighten my hair color a couple shades (I am a medium ash brown and i become a light golden brown.) Bottom line, this product is $200 less than the salon. Yes, the fumes are strong; crack a window and turn on the ceiling fan. The only mistake we made (my daughter) was not repeating the heat flattening process. The directions say repeat 7-12 times? And it gets Smokey! You can do it 4-5 times at least. This last time my daughter whipped thru it once or twice so it didnât take like before. Go three (3) days before washing it and use a sulphate free shampoo. I love this stuff! I wish it was available back in the 70âs!!!!!!!ð¥°

It works for me
Iâve bought this twice, in April 2019 and September 2020. Both times it was delivered well-packaged with no problems. Iâve used it four times so far. My hair is wavy, but I wanted this to straighten all of the grey hairs that are wiry and stick out. Also, my hair frizzes due to Florida humidity and my scalp sweating. My hair has no chemical treatment; I just color with henna. Please note, the directions say have someone else put this on you, but I did it myself. Pros: it does straighten my wiry hairs, removes the frizz, though the waviness/frizz creeps back slowly, so that I want to re-treat it again in about four months. I donât have to use heat styling, (I air-dry), buy expensive conditioner, or constantly be combing or brushing my hair. I could afford this product, while I could never afford to have this done in a salon. Cons: what the cons are with all of these products. The ingredient that has the most effect here is actually formaldehyde , not the keratin. The fumes from it are very irritating to eyes and throat, even doing it outside. Also, maybe it causes cancer. Directions are to put it no closer than one centimeter to your scalp. When I put it on my own hair, I canât do it without getting it on my scalp. Someone else applying it might do better. Also, it takes me about three hours ( my hair is below shoulder-length), and I wait three days before getting my hair wet/washing it. Also, I use only sulfate-free shampoo, because the directions say sulfates can cause it to wear off faster. Finally, it probably has caused hair damage, but I think thatâs offset by the fact that Iâm not using heat styling, or combing out tangles. For now, I plan to keep using this, and wil buy it again. P.S. I first use Ion Hard Water Shampoo, from Sallyâs, which is chelating and clarifying.

Transformed my coarse hair to silly and shiny will never change
I purchased this quite a few months ago. Since the last product I tried burnt my throat and eyes I dreaded using this product. I just went through the process and I cannot describe how spectacularly it worked!!! I do not know how long my silky shiny hair will last. I will not be disappointed of it only works for a month. I will gladly do it again. I applied and completed the process in about 2 hours. I also made sure that there was an open window with a fan facing outside and another fan pushing the air towards that window. The smell was not bad at all. My eyes burned for a few minutes while I was applying the product, however, it was bad at all. Normally it takes 45 minutes to dry my hair. After using this product it took about 15 minutes. I have extremely coarse thick curly hair with plenty of gray. Before this product I would pull my hair back into a ponytail and sadly my hair would pull out of the ponytail and completely frizz. I looked like a crazy woman. I have pulled my hair back and because my hair is not frizzy or curly it all stays in the ponytail because it seems longer. My sister goes to a salon and pays $400 for a keritan treatment, my results are better.

I have thick coarse hispanic 3B hairI have ALOT of it too. When straightened it’s down to my butt. Washing, drying & styling would take me HOURS.I decided to try this on a whim after seeing a TikTok.I used half the bottle for my hair, using the longer detailed method.Trust the process girls. It actually works.I know it doesn’t look like it but this is my hair naturally dried with no styling. It is so much more manageable. No more unruly puffy frizzy hair. I can successfully straighten & style my hair with one pass max 10mins time & effort. My hair is shinny & soft to the touch now.

I applied this as recommended after using clarifying shampoo. I have used several keratin treatments at home in the past so I know what I am doing.Once I applied this to my clarified hair. I l covered it with a shower cap to keep it moist. When I lifted the shower cap to adjust, all this dry powder fell all over my face, clothes and eyes. Very afraid of the chemical in my eyes, I rinsed out my eyes quickly. There was slight burning. I quickly asked the product out of my hair as I had no idea what it would do to my hair.I contacted David as per the card that came with the product for any questions or concerns. He replied quickly for the first time but then it would be days between responses. There was a lot of back and forth to set up a time to call. At that point I went out of town and never heard back. I was hoping to get a replacement to be able to try the actual product as David said this was not normal. Not sure why we needed a phone call to discuss. He could have simply sent out a replacement. I ended up returning it as the return window was close.

After using this, my frizzy/curly hair blow dries sleek and straight, which is an absolute MIRACLE and a first for me.Unfortunately, on my tropical vacation it still frizzed/curled up in the extreme humidity. However, I think at home in my regular climate it will hold up better.

I thought it was something to put on your hair after a shower to smooth it. There’s a whole process to this. It’s like a straightening treatment or something, I haven’t used it yet
